Hi, This is the picture of the L/H side panel bracket on my frame. The R/H side has a similar bracket but doesn't have the little tube welded to it that the side panel screw screws into - should it have or just a nut welded to the rear of it?
Cheers

I just checked my photo archive. My spare rear frame had the little tube on both sides:

But the frame on my bike doesn't have a tube on the right hand side:

Thanks Paul.
Would you say they were both the same size? Not sure looking at your picture.

I think they're different. I zoomed into the photo and the left hand one is definitely a tube, but the right hand one looks like a welded nut.

Thanks again Paul. That definitely looks like a nut - and a washer?
But that doesn't seem right to me - Why in manufacture would they produce a bespoke threaded tube welded on to one side and tack on a standard nut on the other?

The factory didn't, the plate originally was threaded but this soon strips so at some point a previous owners has had a nut tacked on. I've done the same myself because of this issue.

Thanks Rob.
So why didn't they do that on the other side - especially as in general the L/H panel doesn't get removed?
I suppose then the nut should be tacked onto the inside of the bracket.

Just to throw a spanner in the works - Ive just come across this picture from an older EBay ad.

That does look as if both sides are the same?

It is possible as the years went by maybe later on the factory altered the set up and used tubes both sides but for 61 it was only a flat plate. We'll never really know and in reality if it can be fixed and improved by any method it doesn't matter.

Instead of sitting down to watch the telly I went out to the garage to have a good look.
If you could sit where the engine is you can see that the side panels should be parallel to the frames main down tube above the swinging arm.
For this to happen I had to space out the toolbox side panel by 1/2" - funnily enough the same size as the little tube on the L/H bracket.
So I duplicated this tube and brazed it on and it all looks right.
Thanks for you help guys.
