1933 model 12 250 gearbox
So next problem. I believe the gearbox it came with is the correct one and that it’s a sturmey archer though there are no markings on it except the part number on the case that matches the parts list, the case needs some minor repairs so all’s good the only problem is the clutch bits that are in the box and I think these are correct too (though a couple of bits are missing) but the issue here is the hub taper is too big for the shaft I’m thinking I might be able to make a tapered sleeve as I’m thinking the chances of finding another is less than slim as I don’t know what make it is

It would help if the gearbox number was given. It will tell me its year and model.

Matchless took over AJS in 1931. Machines made before that were real AJS those after less so.
As AMC was not founded til 1938 your bike should perhaps more accurately be called a Matchless AJS.

Or a bitsa sorry I didnt realise AMC took over that early, I presumed (once again wrongly) it was much later...
So this gearbox is a matchless, ajs, amc, sturmey archer then
I definitely have no hope identifying it then

Have you seen the Sturmey Archer info in the Archives?
I haven't looked at the articles but there may be something of use there:

Re: 1933 model 12 250 gearbox
doing a bit more searching I'm thinking the clutch hub may be for a 33/A2 as it has the same drawing number DIV24 (but part number 1246 not 1180) and says
"clutch centre tapered with slots 17/32" deep" once again I cant see a number on the part
