1955 rear hub
The parts book for 1955 models lists two numbers for the rear hub, G3L-021580, G3LCS-021695 , can anybody tell me what the difference is between the two?

1955 road models such as G3L had a QD rear hub. The competition models had bolt-up rear hubs.

Re: 1955 rear hub
My reason for asking I have just received a hub from a club member stamped with a part No.021581 which on checking the parts book says its for a road model.
My bike is a 1955 G3LCS and the hub looks to the same as the one on my bike, I haven't had chance to take the wheel off yet to see what part No. the one fitted has, could it be that my bike has a road model hub on it?
I have an old sprocket that I changed a couple of years back and tried that on the 'new' hub and it fitted perfectly.

Re: 1955 rear hub
It sounds like you've a QD hub then. If you've a centre stand or can raise the rear wheel to spin freely. Apply the back brake and rock the wheel back and forth. If you can feel play its wear on the drive pins and holes in the sprocket.

Re: 1955 rear hub
Could one of the differences be the gauge of spokes used and the size of the holes in the hub for them?

Think your right about the 'standard' hub being on my bike, the spokes measure 10 gauge and a while ago I had the problem of wear on the pins and the holes in the sprocket, a new sprocket was fitted and the pins turned 90 degrees to cure the play, what's confusing is the spindle with the tommy bar as on the CS models is fitted so I wrongly assumed it was a genuine CS hub.
