Help for a 1964 Ajs CSR 650
Hallo guys,
my name is Giorgio and I live in Italy.
Some days ago I found a really amazing 1964 AJS CSR 650 for sale and I need your help to be sure that everything is ok before
completing the purchase.
The bike was completely restored ( body and engine ) in England in 2018,then imported in Italy from the actual owner in 2019.
It looks really amazing and works perfectly and I love her very very much.

Now can you please tell me if the Frame Number
https://postimg.cc/jWVgzLW8
and the engine number
https://postimg.cc/LYVmddKp
are correct?
On the Italian registration document is indicated AJS CSR 650 31.
The engine has only one carburetor....is right?
Thanks in advance for your precious help!!!

The bike looks beautiful, however the most glaring thing that is incorrect for year is the petrol tank! The tank shape is correct as are the zig zags, however the badges are for 62-63. For 64 the badges would have been plastic Diamond shape not the large alloy Kneeknocker design which means the tank originally came from a 63 bike. The screw holes being in a totally different place.

hallo ajscomboman,
thank you for your post!
I found the original 1964 brochure of the hurricane model and the petrol tank and the badge seem to be the same.

There is an online information service at the club website, it's £10 for non-members or £5 for members. It gives basic information associated with the frame number.

Alternatively you can email the club dating officer and he will provide a dating certificate and letter giving all the information held by club. This is £70 non-members or £10 for members

This article gives the range of frame and engine numbers for different models for different years...
http://archives.jampot.dk/general/Match ... AJSMOC.pdf
You can check your frame number, the photo of your engine number appears to be the gearbox number. The engine number is on the crankcase at the front just below the cylinder barrel.
The article will not tell you if the the engine and frame were matching as they left the factory.

Are you sure about the tank badges Rob?
The 1964 sales brochure shows the big alloy tank badges... The 1963/1964 parts list also shows the same part number.
1965 for the diamond plastic badges?

Yes, 1965 for the diamond badges, ‘62,63 and 64 for the knee-knockers.

Re: Help for a 1964 Ajs CSR 650
Very odd indeed as the 63/64 brochure lists a different part number for the 63 tank and 64 tank. The badge number is different as well, unless I had a senior moment last night!
