G11 Wont start - help required
My G11 has been laid up for the winter. I usually go and start it every few weeks to make sure everything keeps running, but neglected to do so last year. Now it won't start.
When i put it to bed last year it was runny lumpy when i opened the throttle. I found that the air cable had broken so the air valve was closed all the time. This has been corrected.
So cleaned the points (they were baddly oxidised), reset the points gap. replaced a broken brush on one of the pick ups.
I have a good fat white spark on both plugs when kicked over.
And checked i have the plug leads on the right cylinders.
I have cleaned the carb, blown out all the jets.
Fuel is flowing, carb can be flooded.
When i kick it over i can feel the compression, but it doesn't start.
If i open the throttle fully and kick it over it tries but won't run.
Any ideas?

Have you tried fresh fuel? Modern ethanol petrol will deteriorate if left for long.

If it is trying with the throttle wide open that usually means it is flooded

Running lumpy before it went into storage? Is the timing set correctly? My other thoughg is that the carb float may be leaking causing too much fuel in the bowl. Would fit Ralph's idea that it's flooded. If you had the float bowl cover off (assuming it's a monobloc) has the little spacer which goes beside the float gone walkabout.

Running lumpy was only when the throttle was opened up, ran fine at tick over and lower throttle levels - so i i put that down to the air / choke being blocked as the cable had broken.
The carb has been off, all checked ok, float is ok, spacer is there.
Just going to get some new plugs. The old plugs gave a fat white spark, from what i read that is good, but they are at least 5 years old so i will change them anyway.
I will also recheck the timing, but nothing has happened that would have knocked that out.

I was going to suggest new plugs. The spark should be blue.

Changed the plugs - no difference
Checked the timing, which was out by quite a lot (no idea how), reset - no difference
I now have a good blue spark.
The plugs don't appear to be getting wet even when the carb is flooded, so will have to look at the carb again.
