G15 rear wheel adjusters
Hi all, anyone know whether the rear wheel adjuster bolts for G15's are longer than standard? i.e. the pre-Norton wheel models, are they shorter?
Have ordered a pair from JSL, but they are out of stock, and the ones I had fitted seem to be dropping out of the swinging arm before the chain is anywhere like adjusted.

Although I've looked at a G15 photo on this site I don't know the G15 and may be talking complete rubbish (specialist subject), but is it possible that your chain's too long or totally knackered - such that the adjustment bolt can't take up so much slack?
I had the same problem on my G3LS (different arrangement probably) but the chain was on the bike when I bought it 3 yrs and 18,000 mls ago. Being very impoverished I bodged it 4,000 miles ago by removing 2 links and fitting a link and a half in its place
No doubt the knackered chain won't be doing the sprockets any good, but at least I'm still on the road.

thanks for the response, I have only done 4500 miles on this bike since I built it using new chains and sprockets. I'm sure it's not worn excessively, also the wheel has only moved back about 1/4" in total from the front of the adjustment slot. If my memory is right- which is not totally reliable- The spindle and nut on the Norton wheels are a smaller diameter, hence the need to screw the adjuster out further to meet the spindle. I was hoping someone could confirm this, but I suppose it's not an item you replace very often-if you have the bike it probably came with all the right fixings. Mine was a basket case and as ever there were a lot of unrelated bits in the baskets!
The JSL spares list does give a part number for bikes after '64 so I hope these are the ones and they are back in stock soon.
I know it would not be a big job for a proper man with a lathe, but that's not me unfortunately. I've bunged some almost long enough BSF bolts in there for now, but as they are not cycle thread I feel I'm letting the side down at the Rivet Counter and Polishers Arms And NO! that is not where the East Midland Section meet!

Ah, hmm. Yes. 1/4" isn't enough.

Steve, If the adjuster butts up to the spacer that fits over the spindle have you got the correct spacer? Would it be posible to obtain /make spacers with a larger outside diameter?

Hi all, thanks for the mention of Tony Surbey-I always forget about him and have never bought anything from him-in fact my only dealings with him were at Founders day when I sold HIM some barrels and pistons!
Laxey, as these are the Norton wheels there is no spacer to beef up. The adjuster bears directly on the spindle end and nut. Both have a land below the hexagon for this, and it is smaller than the older types in diameter. (looked at some one elses since posting this) The only answer can be longer adjuster bolts-hence the post 1964 part number.

If you don't have any luck with Tony, then try Russell Motors, they have a lot of stock which they bought from most of the other London dealers as they closed, so might just have what you want.

Russell's often have the elusive G15/P11 part that others don't stock. Also, never forget Andrew Engineering in Leigh who have always been excellent with me as have all the others - JSL, Surbeys, etc.

Andrew Engineering would probably make you them up if JSL are still out of stock......they are extremely knowledgeable AND helpful.

Thanks for all those replies, all good and will use them ta! Haven't touched the bike this week, weather to depressing and riding kit took 3 days to fully dry, so the car came in handy again.
