General repair and servicing

Post by 1923richard »

Do some one know where I can find someone to help me get my engine running. I have a G2 CSR which I bought almost stripped.

I managed to get al the electrical rebuild and have spark in the ignition. But I can not get it startet. Maybee someone can recomend a mechanic/garage that can help? I live near Watford / st. Albans
Thanks

You are very lucky - close to Bedford is the excellent John Bolton:

JOHN BOLTON WORKSHOP 14 - We offer sympathetic repairs to your classic motorcycle. Frame repairs, welding, brazing, cycle parts, engine & gearbox rebuilds, electrical repairs, blasting & paint service. For good old fashioned service call John Bolton 07802 740672 or Mick Clarke 07910 179784

From the "Services" section in the Adverts section of the website.

Thanks John. It is far away for a motorcycle that does not run
How should I be able to take it up there - 45 miles?

I'm Al not John - same surname, no relation!

You'll have to do what everyone else does - stick it in a van or on a bike trailer! Either drive it yourself, contact your local section (you should do this anyway, as there is always help and advice to be had there and you'll meet some nice people who can help) or get a courier to pick it up using something like Shiply (http://www.shiply.com) to find the best price.

Looks like Central may be your local section:

Try using this excellent club website for ideas and information too!

Yes you are right but I'd rather find a place closer to my residence. I would most like to pay someone to come and fix it at home in my garage. I have all the necessary tools, but unfortunately not the necessary skill to do it myself.
Thanks for your advise.

There are very few competent commercial restorer/repairers left. You're lucky John Bolton is so close. Maybe you could tempt him to arrange collection/return at a price.
Most of us rely on section members for mutual voluntary help for the love of the hobby. Get in touch with yours; this won't be the only time you'll need help.
If you look at the recent demograhics post by Eamonn on this site it indicates that the majority are likely to be enjoying a bit of free time now that families have grown up, (and have the occasional spare pound in their pockets) or are at last retired and not wanting to be tied to fixing other folks' bikes for money - even at £20, £30, or £40 an hour.
And we're getting fewer

Now I have finally taken a decision to transport the bike up to Bedford, but unfortunately he has no time for about a month or so.
I have to see if I can find another repairer

a repair shop with out a queue of work waiting is a repair shop thats not much good.

you will have to learn to live in the real old bike world I'm afraid, or buy a jap bike from your nearest jap dealer.
