G9 / M20 Crankshaft

I need some help, I have a replacement crankshaft and it has two extra tapped holes in the Crank Webb, one at each end, they are both 1.375" deep and 1/2" unf thread, and the main oilways go in and out of the holes. My question is: what are they for, I haven't seen them on any others.
