I'm losing a lot of oil. Now old parts lists and diagrams are a bit confusing. The oil seems to be making its way into the primary drive so what should keep it in the engine ? The exploded diagram seems to show something (part 041091) and the parts list mentions an oil seal (042055) neither of which I can track down. Its a very late 1966 model with duplex chain and when I position the engine sprocket the chain rubs on the inner case unless I use shims. What am I missing ?

Re: Oil retention
Not sure about the seals mentioned but...
Is it wet sumping? Have you checked and cleaned the oil filter, when I bought my M14 it was pissing oil everywhere.
On checking the oil filter it was completely, yes completely full of nasty black muck. After a proper clean the oil leaks were almost fixed. Had to replace the primary drive and rocker cover gaskets. Now it's oil tight ... Almost
