1955 G9 recommission

Afternoon All,
I recently bought a G9 on Ebay to add to my 61 G3 AFS. The G9 is an ‘entry level’ machine, having been in storage since 1982 until last year when the PO bought it and put it on the road but found it heavy and sold it to me. It’s pretty crusty and has a later alloy chaincase grafted on. Anyway thought I’d start a thread because I’d like to share the pain 😂
Up on the ramps today because the back wheel was at an odd angle, turns out it has a bent swinging arm so that’s been my job today, removing the old and cleaning the crud of ages off with a toothbrush.
Will post a photo or two once I can
All the best
D

Thanks Gents, I honestly can’t see how to add photos but will get there eventually! 😂

Hmm not sure why there’s a photo of the gearbox but never mind 😂

Currently waiting for a swinging arm to arrive but not really shed weather, the G3 has new rings and is a joy to ride just now

Perhaps of interest, the later alloy primary that was added many years ago and a bit of cleaning just so I can see what’s what.

I don’t see how it can seal at the box end with a floating disc and no felt pads so am going to try the club kit that has discs, felt and is pop riveted in place.

Never mind indeed. There can never be too many photos of bikes, bike parts or ride-outs to add interest to Forum posts.

(Can't help with the Twin seal issue as the only twin I've ever had was an Excelsior Talisman Twin 2-smoke back in the 60's).

double check the breather in the end of the crank , it should only let air flow one way
if it shuck open , or broken then you will get lots of oil / breather into the primary chaincase
