"Downgrading"

Post by Ib-Denmark »

Hi group
sadly I am now selling my g12 because it is to heavy pushing around.
-Take a look at "adverts-for sale" -
After riding Matchless all my life I want to continiue.
Will a Harris Matchless be easier to handle?
If i find one without starter will it then be possible to fit one?
Regards Ib

The Harris will be lighter and easier to handle. There are at least 2 ways to change to electric start. The easiest way is to find an electric start engine, which usually means an MT350 Harley Davidson engine. You also can convert the Harris engine using an MT350 crankcase. Speak to Gary at Sportax Racing. There is nothing he doesn't know about these engines. He can do the electric start conversion for you or give you good advice. https://sportaxracing.co.uk/

The ones with double discs as far as I know had lecy starters, they are revvy top gear is not much use below 50,
the back wheel breaks spokes on the drive side but heavy duty spokes cures it, if it runs rich at big throttle openings
2 or 3 inch holes in the airbox will cure it .
I liked mine once I sorted it.

This site:

https://www.mod-sales.com/search/results.htm

Used to have MT350's but just checked and there are none listed. I thought of just buying one, complete with the gun rack etc.several years ago!

Thank you for calling me young ) I am 75 in a few days).
But the strength in the legs does not always correnspond with the age.

"wont start"
I have put my eyes on a 1989 harris, with kick start, but the owner says it is very difficould to start and that goes for all Harris -bikes also with electric start!!
Is that true .
Is it a common thing??
Regards Ib
p.s. i believe there are only two Harris bikes in Denmark!

Had a look at Tech articles and am not scared away yet. - Just need to find some spare part-dealers in Europe because it has been a bit difficould buying in England since Brexit.
