Hi everyone, could anyone tell me what type of timing chain cover was on the 46 500 Matchless, I was supplied the alloy one with the indented winged M but have seen pictures of a steel one with the raised winged M. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Steve.

My understanding is the steel rather than alloy cover was introduced during the war due to shortage of the alloy materials. The 46 dealers brochure is illustrated with the raised M cover which makes sense as there would still have been a shortage of materials and there may have been stock remaining from unfulfilled contracts.

Steve the cast iron (?) WD cover I have is plain I have not seen many to know if they are all like that.
If you open up sequential parts list from the archive you can track through the part numbers to see if/when they change.

A while back i bought a wd motor on behalf of some Belgian members. The timing cover was steel with a raised winged M.
