Carb Spacer

Post by shufty »

What is the purpose of a "Carb Spacer"?

I've been having a few carburetter issues with my 1960 G9 since its recent rebuild. (Amal monobloc 376/209)

I won't bore you with the details of the problem and what I've done to resolve it...... but according to the spares list I should have a 1/8" thick Carb Spacer fitted (part #023496). This is missing on my bike.

I can get one easily enough, and will do so, but I wondered what the spacer is for?

Would, not having one fitted, make any difference to performance?

Thanks in advance..

Heat from the head pasing to the carb causes the petrol to evaporate. This can cause dificulty when starting a hot engine. The only contact with the head when the spacer is fitted is the two studs.Hope this gives you the answer you would like.
